Get Juiced in Greenpoint: Café Royal Brooklyn

By: Brooklyn Exposed

(The Royal juice)
From the same genius that brought you Papacitos and Brooklyn Standard, Café Royal Brooklyn is a vibrant new restaurant – open just six months – in Greenpoint that offers specialty coffees, teas, meals and delicious fresh-squeezed juices. With fresh, local ingredients such as carrot, kale, parsley, rhubarb, ginger and even jalapeno, patrons are welcome to prepare their own concoction or order one of the specialty juices for $6.50.
Try The Royal specialty juice if you’re looking for a bit of a bite. This bright orange beverage packed with Vitamin A is a tasty blend of apple, carrot, lemon, ginger and jalapeno. Served chilled, the drink is the perfect balance between sweet, tart and spicy and refreshing to the core. Other top sellers include The Standard, made with apple, carrot, lemon, ginger and beets and The Driggs, composed of red pepper, sweet potato, carrot and pear.
Beverage Manager Tanto Davis, who is originally from a long line of drink connoisseurs in Virginia, is a firm believer that drinking fresh-squeezed juice is one of the healthiest things people can do for themselves. The café is a direct answer to what the owners saw as needs in the Greenpoint community. There simply weren’t enough fresh juice bars or cafés that offered specialty coffees and free WiFi. Café Royal also allows guests to linger for as long as they like, already assembling a growing base of regulars.
For those who prefer more than juice, the food menu is diverse, consisting of quick pre-made meals like breakfast burritos and steel coat oatmeal, Panini, salads and entrees like Roasted Beet and Arugula Salad and Duck Confit. There are numerous vegan options (ideal for the neighborhood) and brunch is served all day. Try the hearty “Brunch in a Bowl” for $9.50, a medley of soy sausage, roasted potatoes, onions and eggs, scrambled together and baked in a ramekin.

Café Royal Brooklyn offers daily specials and delivery and can be found on Nassau Avenue off the G line’s Nassau Ave stop.
